Coleman Jarred & Mary Jane Warrick Hudson Family Reunion

Coleman Jarred (Jart) Hudson Family Cemetery (HM) (1)

This photo was taken in 2018, obviously during the winter.

Almost all of the tombstones in our Coleman Jarred (Jart) Hudson Family Cemetery face the setting sun in the west. Obviously, this photo was taken from the east side of the cemetery looking west. The cemetery was situated along the old path (see Sitemap) of what is now named Old Warsaw Road.

Elijah Hudson, infant son of Coleman Jarred (Jart) & Mary Jane Warrick Hudson was the first to be buried here in 1889. He lived about thirteen months.

In the upper right can be seen the back of the Hudson Manor. With its two-story part, it is the tallest of the buildings.

Nobody was interred here after 1939 until Sampson (Samp) Monroe Hudson Sr. died in 1989. In 2009 his wife, Margaret Peace Holland Hudson was laid to rest beside him. Their tombstone can be seen in the upper right corner. The cemetery sits on land owned by the children of Samp and Margaret. One of the three children, Jewel Hudson Cannady, has taken care of our cemetery for many years.

There is a schedule on this page showing who is buried in the cemetery.

Note the Masonic emblem on the top of the monument. Coleman Jarred was a member of Hiram Lodge #98 in Clinton, NC. This face of the monument faces west and sits near the southwest corner on the cemetery. Long before CJ's time in Turkey, the two story part of his Hudson Manor had served as the domicile of Line Lodge, when the building was situated on one of the nearby Kenan Plantations. It was called Line Lodge due its proximity to Sampson/Duplin county line. The membership was moved to the Clinton lodge when Line Lodge was closed.

And the gent standing there is a fine man. In recent years when I would go down to Sampson County. I would take my Dad, Wilbert Dudley who is now 98, over to visit with David. Could sit and listen to those two talk about stories and people all day. Plus, David always would call me "Pretty Boy." No one else has ever called me that. A thought just crossed my mind. Did he mean it, did he feel sorry for the way I really look, or was he making fun of me? Truly like David. David always would call me "Pretty Boy." No one else has ever called me that. Travis Register, how are you associated with this family? Just wondering. My Dad is first cousin to David and all of his brothers and sisters. - Jerry Ray Dudley

Jerry Ray Dudley, Travis is not a descendant of CJ & MJ, but he a good family friend from Turkey. He was making really good comments on our posts in the Sampson County history group, so I invited him into the inner sanctum to fellowship with us. - Gary Alan Hudson

Gary Hudson, I had had a couple of exchanges on the SCHS site, and then I met him about 3 months ago at a funeral in Ingold. Nice putting faces with names, but Travis and I had a nice chat that day we met face to face, and when I saw him commenting I was wondering about the connection. He seems to be a nice guy. Thank for the explanation. - Jerry Ray Dudley

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I do have fond memories of many of the Hudson family and grew up with Gary and many others. Special memories of Mr. Dewey [George Dewey Hudson Sr.], Mr. David [David Dwight Hudson Sr.], Mr. Pelmon [Pelmon Jart Hudson Sr.], Mrs. Sally [Sallie Jane Hudson Roberts], Mr. John [John Thomas Hudson] and Ms. Zilphia [Zilphia (Zilffy) Elizabeth McCullen Hudson] to name just a few. Many good folks both here and gone on. They are part of an era I consider some of the best times. Just good, honest, hardworking folks. Enjoy being here and sharing stories and memories. – Neuiel TRAVIS Register.

Thank you for displaying the love of our generations. A good picture or a fine man: David Hudson. – Marie West Phillips.
